Hey Mom – give your kiddo a reason to fall in love with sweet potato fries when they grow up. Sweet potatoes are a wonderful food to introduce to your little one.

Sweet potatoes can be introduced to your baby’s diet between 6-8 months.* They are loaded with essential nutrients, including vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin E, calcium, potassium, and folate. They are easy to prepare, just remember to choose a potato that is without bruises or soft spots. Got it? Let’s make baby food!

Sweet Potato & Apple Mash

Ingredients:

  • 1 sweet potato
  • 1 small apple
  • Water

To make:

  • Peel and wash sweet potato and apple
  • Dice up and steam until tender
  • Mash up and add water to thin (depending on consistency you want!)

If sweet potatoes are a new food for your babe, you may want to opt for a mash without the apple. It is much easier to pinpoint a reaction to a food when there is only one in play. Once you are in the clear, go crazy with combos. It will change things up and give your baby a number of essential nutrients. Over time, he or she will be able to eat more, and may enjoy a chunkier version for a new texture (around 1 year).

Enjoy introducing your cutie to the glorious veggie that is the sweet potato!

*Always speak with your pediatrician about your baby’s diet, of course.
