Autistic Children Experience “One Perfect Day” at Local Surf Camp

WOONSOCKET, RI – September 19, 2015 – Autism affects 1 in 68 US children, many of whom struggle with sensory overload. Thanks to sponsors and volunteers, over 200 autistic children and their families were able to experience “one perfect day” during Surfer’s Healing camp at Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island.

Surfer’s Healing aims to enrich the lives of those living with autism by exposing them to the unique experience of surfing through dozens of camps in the US each year. “The water is a therapeutic tool. It’s valuable and it’s used as a method of relaxation,” says Surfer’s Healing founder Izzy Paskowitz.

The organization was founded in 1996 and came locally to Rhode Island starting in 2009. Participants are paired with professional surfers from across the country to hit the water for fun and respite. Volunteers work year-round to make this event possible. Thousands of dollars are raised for travel, accommodations, food and other expenses.

In addition to providing samples for families of surf camp participants, Mom of 11 Kids is donating a portion of every product sale to this worthy organization. “It’s an honor to partner with a non-profit that brings so much joy to autistic children and their families,” says Mom of 11 Kids founder Tami Antelman. “We’re grateful to all the volunteers who make this annual event happen, as well as our customers, whose support allows us to make a difference in the community.”
