4th of July Sugar Cookie Recipe

Who’s looking forward to celebrating the 4th of July? We cannot wait to spend time with our friends and families at cookouts and firework displays. If you will be attending a party, you may be wondering what you can make that is fast and simple – we know you’re busy enough, mama. So, today we have just the recipe for you: Red, White & Blue Sugar Cookies.

Fourth of July cookies

The Cookies

You will need:

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

To make:

  • Preheat your oven to 375 F.
  • While the oven heats, add flour, baking soda, and baking powder to a small bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  • Add dry ingredients to the soft ingredients, mixing in gradually.
  • Once you have a dough, roll dough into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes.
  • Cool on wire rack before frosting.

The Frosting

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • ½ tbs water

To make:

  • Mix together until thick and spreadable
  • Mixture will thicken as it sets

Once the cookies are frosted, it is time to decorate with sprinkles, candy, or whatever your heart desires. Here are a few ideas:

  • Red, white, and blue M&Ms
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles
  • White stars
  • Red or blue sugar crystals
