Natural Baby Bites: Summer Strawberry

Give your little berry a taste of summer. Strawberries are in season, and are a great food to introduce to your little one. Packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, strawberries add a whole lot of nutritional value to your her diet.

One thing to note about strawberries is that they are a potential allergen food. As a mom, you may wonder if or when you should try it at all. Because of this, it is a good idea to introduce strawberries at 12 months or older. If you would like to do so sooner, you should call your pediatrician and discuss this matter with them. They will steer you in the right direction.

Once you get the okay, you can try out this recipe:

Strawberry Banana Mash

  • ½ banana
  • ½ cup strawberries

Simply mash or blend together until smooth (or you can leave it a little chunky if your baby is old enough for solids!)

Note that strawberries are on the Dirty Dozen list, so organic may be your best bet.

If this is the first time you are feeding your babe strawberries, you may want to start with a simple mash. It is much easier to pinpoint a reaction to a food when there is only one in play. We just know that she is going to love strawberries – who wouldn’t love something so sweet? We bet you can’t keep your spoon out of this mash, either.

Veteran SuperMoms: What was your experience when introducing strawberries? We’d love to get your input.
