For Mommy: Scaly to Smooth Skin

Hey mama – how’s your skin? Dry, itchy, flaky skin is not an uncommon side effect during pregnancy. Instead of settling for scaly skin, you need to properly treat and nourish it. This week, we have put together a list of tips that can help get you on the road to smoother, moisturized skin.

For smooth skin, you should:

  • Always choose warm, not hot. While you may think a nice hot shower or bath is the key to comfort, think again. Hot water aids in stripping your body of its natural oils, which can lead to MORE itchiness and dryness. Take a quick, warm shower instead.
  • Choose products that are free of fragrance. The added scent and chemicals may irritate your skin.
  • Use a gentle body brush to rid of the flakes. Exfoliation can help, but do not overdo it. Too much exfoliating can irritate the skin.
  • Always, always, always apply a natural body butter or moisturizer after you have showered. This helps to seal in the moisturizer.
  • Lather on your favorite moisturizer or jelly on your feet and then immediately put on a pair of socks. Do this right before bed. Your feet will feel amazing come morning!
  • Reconsider your diet. Dry skin is often a sign of omega-3 deficiency. You can get omega-3 by eating salmon, walnuts, flaxseed, shrimp, and soybeans.
  • Use No Time for Dry Skin on yourself (and baby!) The perfect bonding experience.
