Turmeric has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. These have been attributed to curcumin, the main component of turmeric.

Turmeric is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family. It is native to southwest India. It has been used as medicine in Asia for thousands of years.
