Natural Baby Bites: Apple Sauce

Healthy baby nutrition: apple puree

It’s apple season, baby! Have you gone picking yet? Truth be told, I don’t have children yet and I still go apple picking every season. It’s so much fun, and it was a great pastime for me. I look forward to bringing my own cuties, someday.

I thought it would be perfect to make apples the star of our Natural Baby Bites feature this month. Who doesn’t like apple sauce?

Apples can be introduced to your baby’s diet when they reach 6-8 months old.* They are loaded with fiber, including soluble and insoluble, both helping to maintain regular bowl movement. The last thing you want is a constipated baby on your hands – it’s heartbreaking! Apples may also help maintain good healthy by promoting cardiovascular health

Aside from all the nutritional value that apples can bring to your baby’s diet, they are very easy to prepare. Here’s a simple recipe for apple sauce, right here.

Recipe for 1

You will need:

  • 1 apple (your choice, but Macintosh is a good option!)
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • Water

Instructions:

  • Peel, core, and dice up apple
  • Add to pan with enough water to just cover the apples
  • Add your dash of cinnamon
  • Boil until tender, mash with a fork, cool, and serve

Want more than one serving? Just keep adding apples and water – you may want to have some, too!

*Always speak with your pediatrician about your baby’s diet, of course.
